Textile Artist, Heather Cotterman resides in beautiful Elbert County, Colorado with her family and fiber flock. When she is not teaching Therapeutic Horseback Riding to local children with special needs, tending to her fiber farm animals and her children, or teaching Dog Agility classes, she is creating her art in her home in Parker. Her artistic endeavors began with Quilting when she started making Quilts for Dog Agility enthusiasts to display their winning ribbons. Her inspiration quickly began to embrace beautiful landscape and nature design taking a turn toward the fine art realm. After acquiring two adorable South Down Babydoll Sheep for the therapy program, Heather's artistic spirit began to incorporate the sheep's wool into felted horses, quilts, hand spun art yarn, and hand woven pieces. She continues to explore the possibilities of creating artistic expression with the fiber she collects from the variety of fiber producing animals that she has added to her family: Angora Goats that produce Mohair, Angora Rabbits that produce Angora Woolen, Chocolate Blue Faced Leistcher Sheep that produce a luxurious longwool, and fine Southdown wool. Heather hand dyes, and spins her fiber into beautiful textural art yarns that is sold in skeins or woven into unique hand woven pieces. In addition to her fiber creations Heather also enjoys the medium of pen and paper, exhibiting her creativity through tangled designs which are then transformed into imaginative art quilts. The images she produces encompasses both abstract and iconic shapes that are tangled into designs that one can become lost in.
