ChoreographerHeather White-Cotterman is an alumna of Otterbein University, graduating with a BA in Choreography and a BSE in Education. She was a member of Otterbein University's Adjunct Faculty for the Theatre and Dance Department from 1999-2013 before she moved to Elizabeth, Colorado. Heather has taught Jazz Dance for 27 years, concentrating on Fosse, Cole, Giordano style techniques. Her Choreography style ranges from Classical Jazz to Musical Theater to Contemporary Concert Dance. She has taught for many private studios in the Columbus, Ohio area including BalletMet Academy and Bartelt Dancers. As former Dance Coordinator for Delaware County Cultural Arts Center, Heather has been involved in curriculum development for integrative arts in education courses helping to provide area public schools with an opportunity to use dance as an effective teaching tool in academics. Heather has danced professionally with Spectrum Dance Theater in Seattle, WA under the direction of Dale A. Merrill and with JazzMet in Columbus, OH under the drection of Stella Hyatt-Kane. Her Choreography Credits include anual works for Otterbein Dance Concerts from 1999-2013. During the Summer of 2005 she presented her piece "Passions" in the World Jazz Dance Congress in Chicago, IL.
Heather spent her Summers growing up in Chicago studying dance at Gus Girodano's dance school and at Hubbard Street. She had the honored opportunity to take classes with many great Jazz Teachers throughout her training such as Gus and Nan Giordano, Luigi, Matt Mattox, Frank Hatchet, Joey Tremaine, Randy Duncan, Pattie Obey, Liz Imperio, and Susan Quinn. She has performed works by Dwight Rhodan, Claire Bastile, Lynn Taylor-Corbett, and Stella Hyatt-Kane. Her musical theater productions include Les Miserable' (Otterbein, 2013); 'Jeckle and Hyde' (Ohio Northern 2005); 'School House Rock Live!' (Otterbein, 2003); 'Barnumn: The Spectacle' (Otterbein 2004); 'The Sound of Music' (Pleasure Guild Children's Hospital Benefit, 2003); 'Once Upon a Mattress' (Pleasure Guild Children's Hospital Benefit, 2004); and 'Life is a Cabaret' (2003) an original production by Park Street Players of Columbus Children's Theatre. Other Choreography Credits include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Miser; West Side Story; and The Unicorn, the Gorgon, and the Manticore. |
